Basic Considerations On Selecting A Home Bar

If you are finally decisive about going ahead with that home bar, you need to be aware of the options available to you on its selection. There are specifically three options from which you can choose. Option one would be to design the bar, build and install it yourself. This would work for you if you are handy with carpenter skills or know someone who is and have a difficult location in mind for your home bar that requires custom touches. If that is not the case, you can buy a used bar, install it as is or make any required modifications to bring it up to your standards and fit the designated area of your home in which you want it located. Lastly, you can buy a spanking new bar with all the bells and whistles of your dreams, ready for installation.

Therefore, whatever choice is decided upon, it is critical to reflect on a number of processes and considerations that will reduce frustration and yield a wonderful entertaining unit and value added dimension to the home.

First of all, as with any important undertaking, it is important to have a plan. Consequently, the home of bar builder should identify that area within the home in which the bar will be placed. It is paramount that drawings to scale be made and conducive to the style of home bar that is desired. Those typical styles of bars that can be considered include a standard straight sided bar, a home bar in the shape of an L, a horseshoe shaped bar or a home bar that is rectangular in dimension. It is also important to determine whether this bar will be a permanent fixture or can be moved.

The planning stage also needs to cover where in the room the home bar will be situated. If the bar is to be in the middle of a room, it must look presentable from all angles; a rectangular shaped bar would fill that need. On the other hand, if your home bar is going to be in a corner or against a wall, you don?t care if the side against the wall or sides in the corner are finished and presentable. Here a simple straight sided structure would do nicely.

Plan also for whether you want your home bar to have fine cabinetry above it or not-so-fine cabinetry below the bar, as no one will see them but the bartender.

You need to plan for electricity if the bar is to contain a refrigerator, light fixtures, etc and whether you want a wet or dry bar. For a wet bar, of course, you will need to plan for plumbing.

There are numerous design styles for the home bar. Some of them would include a rail for guests to rest their feet below their stools, padding for the counter top where guests can rest their arms and perhaps a beer tap for a tall foamy cold one. A very important aspect of the design will be the type of bar seating desired. Options are standard home bar stools of either wood or metal or shoot for the moon and go with leather covered seats with backs and perhaps a swivel mechanism.

Lastly, if you are having someone else design, build and install your bar, you must know the dimensions of it. The standard height of bar stools is 30". If your bar designer has some other dimensions in mind for the bar height, you may have to use custom-designed stools or search for adjustable height stools to accommodate its non-standard height.

Ideas For Decorating Your Foyer

The foyer in your home is usually tricky to decorate because it doesn't really have a certain purpose such as the other rooms in your house. For some people, their foyer should hint at what you will find in the rest of the house. Some of the issues that ought to be considered when you're decorating your foyer are being mindful of a high amount of traffic, making sure it is easy to maintain, developing a location for storage of gloves, coats, and other outdoor gear, and rendering it a flexible space by choosing furniture which can be double-duty.

Making a Romantic Foyer

Nothing says romantic more than a vase with flowers upon an entry or hall table. To get a more romantic feel, be sure that you include greenery.

If you have a mirror hanging in the space, tuck favorite family or vacation photos into your frame's edge.

Scented candles, changed with the seasons can be handy and lit every once in a while.

When you have a well liked saying or perhaps a passage from a book, print it on some nice paper, mat it in a color that's one shade darker than your wall color and hang it within a nice picture frame.

An Eclectic Foyer

Select a bold color that you just love and paint the walls with it.

Group together found objects on the table, such as shells, rocks, and pine cones. Place your objects together in an untraditional holder, like a crystal bowl or perhaps a silver candy dish.

Enlarge one of your favorite photos, place it inside a handsome wooden picture frame, and place on the wall or position it on your table within the foyer. You might also frame maps of your own favorite places in pale blue or deep green picture frames.

Contemporary Foyer

Frame favorite family photos in similar silver picture frames of numerous sizes and put on an entry table.

Let a well-liked object take center stage on the table or shelf, such as a piece of pottery, a sculpture, or a vase.

Keep the artwork basic and target just one single piece which is important instead of many pieces.

The Conventional Foyer

Cover your foyer walls with a historical wallpaper that integrates your colors.

Work with a console to display a cluster of family photographs which are all sepia or black and white, and put in old-fashioned picture frames.

Install mahogany shelves to showcase collections of things that you're passionate about, including paperweights or tea cups. Group the items by color, shape, size, and material for the traditional symmetrical or uniform look.

Utilize wall sconces for attractive foyer lighting. Up lights that light up a plant inside the corner may also create the same drama.

Serene Foyer

If space allows, use a simple chair with a couple of piles of books placed next to it to create a private reading nook. You may also put some of your favorite books within your foyer using a small bookcase.

To make a peaceful contrast on the foyer table, put a collection of smooth black stones inside a bowl or maybe a white dish.

For a serene look it is possible to line up five bud vases that are identical on a table or a shelf, then put just one flower into each of them.

Mat and frame in a simple white wooden picture frame a poster, piece of art, or photograph that moves you and put it inside your foyer where you can appreciate it any time you leave or return.

So, decide what sort of style you would love and make use of these tips to brighten your foyer. You'll be so happy that you did!

How to Create a Mood Board and a Sample Board

These boards are based on ideas and color for the room you wish to decorate. Mood boards give an idea of how colors can match or complement each other. A sample board consists of fabrics, textures and trimmings. It is a good idea to produce both boards, to give an pictorial over view of the room that is to be refurbished.

Creating a Mood Board?
A mood board gives an idea of how the room will look, whether textures will work together or not. It is not just about paint color, but furnishings and accessories are collated and arranged aesthetically on the board. In other words a mood board is similar to a collage of ideas.

Using A 3 plain white card. Create a simple border around the edge of the card. Make sure the border is equal in width all the way around to give a professional finish. Make sure that the pictures are firmly fixed onto the card. It does not matter whether the mood board layout is in landscape format or portrait.

A mood board does not necessarily have to contain pictures of just furniture and accessories, but you can include other items, such as fruit, vegetables or flowers demonstrating the different tones and depth of color. It is always a good idea to put together more than one mood board, particularly if the client is either unsure about the color scheme, or it may be the case that the client is undecided between one or two color schemes. The client can then visualize how this particular color scheme will come together in the room design. If designing with a client in mind make sure you add a titling block. Include the clients name, date project and the name of the designer.

Creating a Sample Board?
A sample board is a collection that shows the various suggested soft furnishings of a room scheme. It is important to see if the combinations from color to texture will work. A sample board consists of fabrics and trimmings only. Sketches, magazine clippings and photographs are not shown generally in place of a sample. The purpose of the board is for the client to approve the fabrics before going ahead with the project.

All samples should be seen to relate to each other in the space and in scale. So basically the samples will represent your room in the size they are in the room. To be a little clearer, the largest pieces in the room would be the carpet, the sofa, followed by a chair, drapes, and cushions. So the position on the sample board should depict the client's room. All samples should be seen to relate to each other in space and in scale.

A good room scheme will not only illustrate an interesting and attractive color scheme, but should also incorporate a wide variety of textures, weights of fabric and patterns. As for the mood board, the sample board should be professionally presented, including a key to the fabrics on the sample board as well as the titling block described above.

Before designing a sample board you should have already interviewed your client. Make sure that you have completed a client briefing questionnaire. Break down specific design considerations within the brief and analyse each part individually. You need to find out about the client's likes and dislikes, his/her personality. You need to find out as much as possible about the project, consider using a checklist, include a deadline for completion. It is imperative that you have the correct measurements of the room in question, particularly if you are replacing furniture. Take into consideration other aspects such as: Are you starting from a blank canvas? Or, do you have certain restrictions? It maybe that the room is to be centred around a fixed focal point such as a fireplace.

Budget.
Most of us have a budget to stick to. It is important to know how rigid is the budget?. We all know that unforeseen problems can occur. Is there that little extra in the budget to accommodate problems that may arise?

Every item purchased must be accounted for.

If employing an interior designer make sure you know how much per hour the interior designer will charge as this can vary considerably. It is not unusual for the interior designer to ask for a down payment to go towards materials, particularly if the project involves electrics, plumbing, building etc.

It is imperative that all discussions between all parties are confirmed in writing. Any alterations to the original plan should always be documented also.

When finalizing the scheme, make sure that you have all the final drawings, sample/mood boards, costs and delivery times. Confirm with the client in writing.

Now you know how to create a mood board and a sample board. You do not have to be an interior designer to adopt these decorating ideas and techniques. You can easily do this yourself. Take your time when putting together your color scheme, your mood and sample boards. You will find that it all comes together perfectly well in the end.

Obviously, if your renovation project requires expert knowledge such as; electrics or plumbing for example. Consult an expert!

Why Designer Radiators Are Becoming Hot Property

Whilst the warmth of a household radiator is clearly found in the cosy feeling of being comfortable in your home, there is extra warmth to be found in the design of a radiator when it complements the other features of a room. Designer radiators have come a long way in recent years to establish themselves as more than a simple utility, and are now being developed with enough personality to exhibit genuine self-expression in your personal tastes.

Few people ever think about integrating the visual appearance of something they typically associate with heating their home with the fundamental aspects of interior design. However, a designer radiator can be both a focal point and even a talking point when it is used to maximum effect. The variety of radiator designs now available is quite simply astonishing in comparison to the invariably bland offerings of yesteryear. In some cases modern designer radiators can almost be compared to works of art, such is the visionary insight of the designers and the complexity of the finished product.

Although it is almost universally accepted that kitchen design absolutely must include the integration of utilities with the other aspects of the design, in other rooms of the house the incorporation of utilities with design concepts often falls short of the mark. With a more comprehensive approach to the design of your entire home, radiators need not be the hidden sources of warmth, but rather an encompassing part of the overall look.

An eye-catching designer radiator can easily form the focal point of one wall, or a particular section of the room, giving visitors cause to offer admiring glances as they feel the warmth cross the room. And without ever compromising substance for style, a designer radiator can provide the necessary heat to shun the cold winter temperatures, while giving the Joneses something to think about next time they visit for coffee!

However not all designer radiators need to be flamboyant fashion pieces. There is a wide choice of cleverly styled radiators now available that are specifically designed to fade into the background, providing ample warmth without blowing the proverbial 'hot air' about the way they look. These radiators are not so much a statement piece as a practical design that lends itself perfectly to your colour scheme and takes a backseat in your vision for the design of your room.

With so many options on the market, it is remarkable that in the vast proportion of British households the poor old central heating system is never given the credit it deserves. Instead it is left to expel its life-giving warmth through the most out-dated and ugly of radiators that do nothing for the contemporary interiors of our homes. Perhaps now is the time the British householder must look beyond the bland and express themselves with a hot new look in their heating system.

For the latest incredible designs in traditional and designer radiators visit http://www.radiatorcentre.com/ to discover how your home can feature the hottest designs on the market.

Cheap Stair Parts - Remodel Your Stairs With Iron Balusters

Remodeling your staircase with iron balusters is fast, easy and affordable! Your stairs are the focal point in your home and a simple remodel will dramatically change the entire look of your home and also increase your homes value at the same time. Most do-it-yourself enthusiasts can accomplish a simple stair remodel on their own without the need of hiring a contractor or stair installer.

A complete stair remodel guide.

After you have decided to remodel your stairs, the first step is to measure out your staircase and create a part list. This sounds difficult but in most cases you can simply count the number of wooden balusters (also called spindles or pickets). In order to meet stair code, your balusters can only be 4 inches apart max. If any gap greater than 4 inches exists in your stair system then you will not meet code and fail any home inspection. If your wooden balusters already meet code then your iron balusters should be able to use the existing holes that were drilled for the wood balusters.

After you know how many you want, it's time to go online and find some stair parts and pick a design. I recommend you go to cheap stair parts for your balusters. They have a great selection and low prices. Even if you find the same products on another any other website, they will beat that price by 5%. My home was a larger remodel and I spent over $1600 so they also gave me free shipping. I strongly recommend them.

When buying iron balusters, try to stay within the same family of products. Do not mix hammered balusters with plain balusters. Do not mix baluster sizes such as 9/16" round with 1/2" Square. Also do not mix finishes. Stay within the same finish for all of your parts. If you do not know what finish to choose, I recommend Satin Black to be safe but Oil Rubbed Bronze is very hot right now and should match your home as easily as Satin Black will.

Once you have purchase your stair parts, it's time to begin the remodel. Lay out some sheets on your stairs to protect your flooring from debris. Cut out your wooden balusters with any saw that will fit. Just make one cut in the center of the balusters and then wiggle out the the top and bottom. Remove any loose nails. After your balusters are removed, sand around the area and get it ready for any additional stain or paint. Now is the time to re-stain or paint any areas that need touched up.

Get a band saw or a chop saw with a metal cutting blade and cut your iron balusters to length. Measure from the bottom of the handrail to the top of the flooring, add 3/4" and cut your baluster that long. Then re-drill into the handrail one inch deep. Make sure the bottom has a 1/4" hole deep. Slide your baluster shoes onto the balusters and then slide your baluster up into the handrail and drop it down into the hole below. Use a dime size drop of non-drip, clear dry epoxy on the top and bottom of the baluster. This will hold it into place easily.

After the balusters are secure, drop the shoes down and then epoxy them to the floor. Now you have a finished look. Do some clean up and enjoy your remodeled stairs.

Area Rugs - Add Warmth to Your Home

Ever noticed how a large room looks a bit empty but will seem crowded if you try to add more furniture? How should you fix barren-looking rooms? The perfect solution would be to bring in area rugs. Not only do they bring your house to life but add a little color and elegance to it as well.

For a dull room or one which has too minimalistic a look a simple area rug can do wonders by adding a touch of style and warmth to it. For instance if you have a room done in black and white with nominal furnishings you can make it look more vivacious by including a bold colored rug in deep maroon or red. That will keep your personalized style but make the room look livelier too.

Area rugs are even more attractive when they complement your furniture. Therefore, they should be carefully chosen in accordance with your interior design. They bring harmony to your home decor and balance off the stark looks that rooms tend to acquire when you go for pastel colors especially.

Just spread an area rug and see how it transforms the whole look of your room by making it look cheerful. Moreover, rugs give personality to your whole house. They also define area divisions within a large room. For example, a mini-parlor in a bedroom could be separated from the sleeping area by laying down a nice rug in between.

The best part about getting area rugs for the whole of your house is that they go with any kind of flooring be it wooden, tiled or carpeted. In addition, they come in a huge variety of shapes. 5 Questions to Ask Yourself Before You Give Your Hallway and Porch a Make-Over.

1. How do you entice a buyer to get beyond the driveway to the front door?

2. What is most likely to put off potential buyers when they enter a property?

3. Ask yourself; if you were buying your home, what is it you see when you enter the property?

4. How do you visualize your hallway or entryway?

5. How can you stretch the already stretched budget?

Let's give your hallway and porch a make-over.

1. You have heard of the term 'Curb Appeal'? That is what you have to do! You can do this with minimum expenditure. Trim back any over- hanging trees and shrubs. Make sure that you can see the front of the house (including the house number) from the driveway and it is not hidden by an overgrown garden. Remove any weeds from the front of the house, pay special attention to the garden path that leads to the house. You could also think about adding solar lights to light the way to your home. Repair any steps that lead to the house. Get out the paint brush and spruce up the paintwork! Make sure the front porch light works, better still change it for a modern look. Next: what shape is your front door in? With a little 'elbow grease' a coat of paint and new hardware, you can transform your front door. Add a plant, flower tub or outdoor chair if you have the room on your front porch. This will make the front of your home very inviting to prospective buyers.

2. When you open that door, what do you NOT want to see? Clutter, untidiness, a dirty entrance, broken light fittings, chipped paintwork and torn or stained carpet or flooring. These are definite 'put offs' for a potential buyer. In fact to be quite honest I wouldn't want to go any further into the property if this is what I was faced with.

3. What is the opposite of the above? A clean hallway, smelling fragrant. Attention to detail! Less is more here. Make your hallway appear larger by adding a wall mirror. A feature for the Hallway would be an eye- popping light fitting, it does not have to be Swarovski crystal, but make sure its size is proportionate to the height of the hallway and avoid the brass color. If you have the space invest in a console table preferably with a couple of drawers where keys and mail can be stored out of sight. Keep wall art to a minimum. Make sure coats, shoes and boots are kept out of sight in a closet. If you can't afford to replace a hall and stair carpet there are other options. If you have a floor boards consider sanding them, finish with stain and varnish. Alternatively, paint them. You can always add a decorate rug! On the stairs the same applies. You can look for a remnant piece of carpet that you can use as a carpet runner. Make sure it does not fray at the end. Paint the sides of the stairs and the carpet will 'run' down the centre. You can then match up the stairs and the hallway.

4. Look at the space you have. This is important as you do not want to overfill the space you have. If there is room for a plant or a chair with a decorative cushion, these are things buyers like to see. It's all in the detail. You want to create a welcoming atmosphere. De-personalise! Which means remove all those family photographs from the stair-well. Keep your entrance fresh-looking; therefore choose your color palette carefully. Clean your windows! See point 3 for ideas.

5. The budget. Once you have estimated what needs to be replaced or painted. The remainder of the budget can be spent on accessories. Look for closeouts, shop for fabric remnants that you could use to recover a chair or make cushions. Fresh flowers make a difference and look inviting. Pay attention to the flowers and plants, make sure they are healthy and fresh, trim dead leaves and flower stalks, and don't forget to change the water the flowers sit in. Good idea not to use a clear vase. You can paint a vase too with a small pot of specialist paint. Be creative!

If you choose a potted plant, make sure it is potted correctly, add more plants, and layer according to height. Jazz up the pot by painting, stenciling, or cementing broken tiles to the pot.

A little imagination goes a long way.

Remember, keep it fresh, keep it clean and less is more. Pay attention to detail.

Duvet Covers - Why They Keep Gaining in Popularity

Duvet covers have been around for a long time, but most Americans were not aware of them until relatively recently. Through the twentieth century their general acceptance and popularity has gone from obscure to a level where even many husbands know what they are. The development of the duvet will provide a little background to the advantages that duvet covers will bring to your decorating arsenal.

The duvet story begins a few centuries ago with down comforters in Europe and silk comforters in Asia. Both comforters required a significant amount of time to make, which gave them value. Also, both types are excellent insulators, but neither one was happy being washed in the local stream nor are they happy in a modern washer.

The value of the comforter, along with the fact that it is difficult to clean, lead to the "invention" of the duvet cover. Similar to the concept of a pillowcase, the duvet cover protected the down or silk comforter from body oils and all the other elements that might soil it.

From this practical and utilitarian beginning in a European peasant hut, the duvet cover has developed to include being the center of a modern bedroom decor. It still protects, but it has also become a fashion item that is easily changed and stored. The original comforters and covers were plain and drab, but eventually the cover's decorative possibilities were realized.

Also, with the passage of time comforters began to be made of materials that are more easily cleaned, leading to comforters that are decorative in themselves, not necessarily requiring a duvet cover.

One last step in reaching the duvet covers used today took place when the first homemaker became tired of her decorative comforter and realized that she could cover it with a duvet cover to produce a fresh new bedroom look. Blankets and quilts can also be used as duvet inserts, so whether one of these preceded the decorative comforter as a duvet insert is not really known.

This development has resulted in the duvet cover of today being as much, if not more, of a fashion statement than just a protective covering. The overall duvet, insert and cover, have many advantages over alternate forms of bed covers. Some of the advantages that have boosted the popularity of duvet covers include:

The more expensive types of duvet inserts, down and silk comforters, are excellent insulators, making the combination of insert and cover very thin and light weight for the amount of insulation and warmth they provide. Other types of inserts that are now available, though not equal to down and silk comforters, still provide very good bed cover qualities.
For the person who likes to decorate and make dynamic change, these covers are an exciting tool. If you have three or four covers, you can change covers and the room's appearance every few months. If you use decorative pillows you can enhance the bedroom's appearance even more. Choose your cover and pillow colors so that the pillows can be used with more than one duvet.
Duvet inserts and covers present less of a storage problem than other types of bed covers. In general two inserts are adequate for any bed. One for the colder months and one for the warmer months, with an empty duvet cover (no insert) being used during the hottest months. So, for most of the year when one duvet insert is in use, you have one bulky (but not as bulky as many other coverings) duvet inserts to store. Add to this all but one of your duvet covers - three in the closet, along with one on the bed would give you four to alternate between. Each of the covers takes up as much space as two folded flat sheets. This compares favorably with the storage space required for a total of four changes with other types of bed covers, such as three bedspreads, quilts or decorative comforters.
When compared to the same quality in other types of bedding, the equivalent number of decor changes is less expensive when duvet inserts and covers are used.
Duvet covers are made for use without a top sheet. Therefore, they save the cost of top sheets and bed making becomes faster and easier.
When you purchase a high quality down or silk comforter to use as your duvet insert, the product will last for many years, and each of those years can realize a utility savings associated with a lower thermostat setting.
Duvet covers can be used to give new life to your old decorative comforters, blankets and quilts.

Although duvet inserts and covers have been around for a long time, their popularity in the US has lagged behind their popularity in other countries until relatively recently. Their popularity in America is now growing as people realize their many advantages over other types of bedding. If you have not yet experienced these advantages for yourself, you are encouraged to try one soon.

Indian Home Decor - Punjabi Interiors For Your Home

If you have ever heard about India, chances are you have heard lots about Punjab. Easily one of the most famous states of India for its vibrant culture and industrious people, Punjab is one of the leading states of the country. Nature's bounty has made this land the food bowl of India, and the hard working people have made a name for themselves throughout the world.

Other than the green revolution, another thing very famous about Punjab is its extremely vibrant culture. Infectious Punjabi music forms with its rhythmic beat form an essential part of practically every movie that is churned out by the famous Indian film industry, Bollywood. While Punjabis are the butt of many jokes, their ability to turn odds on their head is well respected.

When it comes to Punjabi home decor, there are two distinct trends that emerge - the rural and the urban.

The first being the village or the rural trend, in which the decor is pretty simple. Simple furniture such as beds woven from jute husk and seating on the ground is popular. The kitchen is generally separated from the main house. When food is served the men folk eat first and the women eat later.

The villages of Punjab produce some popular home decor items as well. One being the famous Phulkari, that is a very colorful embroidery using thick cotton thread and made into bed spreads, duvet covers et all. Sometimes traditional phulkari embroidery is also used in part to design smaller pieces such as decorative cushion covers, tea-cozy, table covers and mats. This form of embroidery can be generally picked up in emporiums showcasing Punjabi culture, culture fairs or even online shops.

Another famous produce is the cotton 'Durrie'. The durrie is basically a simple mat made of course cotton and is usually used as a floor rug. Very often it is also used as bedding, or under mattresses to avoid slipping of the bed clothes. The navy blue color being most popular, colors such as red, green, gray, brown are all available. The durrie is long lasting, versatile in its use and very practical.

Steel utensils are preferred for use in rural Punjab. Expect large sized steel glasses that hold nearly a full liter of 'lassi' or butter milk, the preferred summer drink of rural Punjab. Even water and milk is offered in these huge glasses and guests are generally expected to finish the whole thing!

Outside a lot of Punjabi village homes you would find colorful ceramic tiles decorating the entrance or the main arch. This is again in line with the inherent nature of the Punjabis to try and show off their wealth to the world.

An interesting thing you may well notice about rural Punjabi homes is shaped water tanks. Thus you would find a large sized concrete bird perched on top of one house, a horse on another, numerous footballs, even aeroplanes and statues of wrestlers! I would again link this to the basic Punjabi trait of seeking attention and displaying wealth.

In my next article we shall delve some more into the home decor patterns of urban Punjab. See you soon!

An Introduction To Wall Tiles

It is said that the first impression is the last impression and there is no denying to this fact. When we visit a place take for example a mall, the first thing we see is the decorated walls. Multiplexes, malls and shopping complexes pay much attention towards decorating their walls because they know that the customer hate seeing dull walls when are moving around the complex. The decoration refreshes their mind and prompts them to move deep inside the complex. Same thing can be said about home. When someone visits your home, he judges your interior decoration by looking at the walls. The thing that can transform the look of your home is wall tiles. These glossy slabs can do magic for your home.

The concept behind using wall tiles is decorating the interior of a home without adding much stuff to the home. These slabs shine like a mirror but the best is thing is this that you can produce awesome pictures using these pieces. With these pieces, you can accentuate a particular portion of your home like kitchen backsplash, shower area and fireplace. This is called cosmetic renovation in which one doesn't remodel the entire surface but only a portion of the wall. If you have budget constraints then you should consider cosmetic remodelling rather than going for full renovation.

A survey of the market can reveal how many kinds of wall tiles are available and what are their peculiarities. There are ceramic tiles, porcelain pieces and marble mosaic slabs. Also there are quartz, glass and vinyl slabs. You can choose one that suits to your need and budget. The most popular tile is ceramic because it has all the qualities a home owner can expect. It is very cost effective and one can install ceramic pieces with a few helping hands. Ceramic slabs are manufacturer by heat and pressure technique. They are heated at high temperatures and kept at unbearable pressure. The process makes them very hard wearing and water resistant. If you are willing to expend lavishly then you should go for marble slabs.

Wall tiles can make a difference to the interior and exterior of your home. These pieces can be used liberally all over the home as they can sustain summer heat, winter chill, acidic rain water, frost and hailstorm. They are much better than the paint because no paint in the world can withstand moisture.

The Perfect Living Room

Defining the perfect living room is more like trying to define a perfect person; there is no consolidated method to do this since it all depends on perspective. You're living room doesn't just speak about your design taste but it also represents your personality in many ways. There is no concrete method you can follow to ensure you have the perfect living room. The 'perfect' here is rather subjective.

As one can imagine, getting started is the trickiest stage. There are so many different styles and designs to choose from that you often find that the decision id harder. There are some that like the traditional kind of a set up while others go for the more contemporary and arty kind of a look. The bottom line is to zero in on any one approach and stick to it throughout. Sure you may have all the ideas but there is no harm looking at a few magazines, books and referring to the internet for variations.

Take a look at some of these steps to get your basics right;

Don't try and mix styles too much. For example, if you've selected a contemporary style living room, too much traditional accessories and decor thrown in will make hard to follow.

Clutter can be one of the biggest enemies in creating a stylish living. Get rid of anything unnecessary and stick to the bare minimum - after all, it's your living room; not a museum. Living room furniture such as TV units, sofas, display cabinets etc. are perfect for organizing and tidying some of your valuables. Furniture can be of different sizes and shapes but ensure that they follow the same theme and colour scheme.

The colours of the wall and the flooring are equally important to the living room. Make sure that these factors are in sync with your theme of the room.

Light can do wonders to making your living room feel more spacious and really emphasising detail. Make sure that there is ample natural light and also look out for methods of managing it such as blinds, curtains etc. Select and place your artificial lights in a way that highlights the room in a balanced manner. You don't always need to use direct light as reflected light through mirrors has a similar effect.

The colour of other elements such as the drapes, carpets, occasional tables, TV units, sofa, display cabinets etc. are also equally important. The worst thing you can do is to have a consistent colour tone in the room and suddenly break it with a contrasting colour.

Again, these elements need to be placed to ensure a proper focal point in the room. It shouldn't happen that there is more than one orientation being followed. This not only gets confusing but also looks disorderly. There's no harm using small accessories in groups but make sure you don't overdo it. Larger accessories should be given much more space when compared to the smaller ones.

Take a look at how you can style your living room with Furniture Outlet Stores.

Furniture Outlet Stores is now an established, recognised and trusted part of the local community and its customers have a loyalty to them that transcends the norm. They aim to make quality furniture affordable at highly discounted prices, to bring an extensive, varied and eclectic range of furniture to our customers and to make shopping for stylish furniture fun, easy and quick.

How To Recover Bar Stools Quickly and Easily

Bar stools are convenient to use, and so they wind up being used all the time. And as a result, they will start looking a bit ragged. Luckily, you can easily recover your bar stools, making the entire area feel like it had a makeover. Remember to choose a nice, heavy fabric that can withstand the regular use and cleaning that will be needed.

Step 1 - Removing the original cover. The bar stool seat can be removed from the frame by unscrewing the bolts that hold it in place on the bottom. Once this is done, the fabric can be removed by taking out the staples that hold it in place.

Step 2 - Creating the new pattern. The seat should be placed upside down and outlined on a sturdy piece of cardboard. The template can then be cut out from the cardboard using a utility knife or a very heavy pair of scissors.

Step 3 - The cotton batting is cut to size It's a good idea to also replace the cotton batting on your seats. This should be cut to the same size as the seat itself using the cardboard pattern. You can also simply lay the batting over the seat and then trim around the edges.

Step 4 - Cutting the fabric. Place the seat facing up with the batting in place. Now, drape the fabric over the seat and allow it to hang over on all sides. Pull the fabric around to the bottom of the seat, holding it firmly in place in the center with a rubber band. Be sure the fabric is pulled tight over the entire seat top.

Step 5 - Securing the new fabric. With a staple gun, start stapling the fabric to the base on the bottom of the seat. Begin at the outside edge and work your way around the entire seat, being sure that the fabric stays nice and tight as you work.

Step 6 - Finish it off professionally. After the stapling is done, remove the rubber band and excess fabric from the bottom. Take the template that was cut from cardboard, and place it on the bottom of the chair. Begin stapling in the middle, and work your way out to the edges. This will keep your fabric more secure and give your chair a professional, finished look.

Step 7 - Remember the fabric protector. Scotch Guard or another fabric protector can be sprayed over the fabric so that stains will be easier to clean up when they happen. Because these are bar stools and will receive constant use, you should use at least two coats of stain protector. Once the fabric dries completely, you are ready to screw the seat back into the frame, completing your quick and easy bar stool makeover.

Taking the time to make new seat covers for your existing bar stools is an inexpensive and easy way to update the look of a room, and make those old stools look brand new.

Why Having Carved Newel Posts In Your Home Will Be Beneficial To Its Value

There are certain elements of building a staircase that you can do yourself, but working with a carved newel post manufacturer for this structurally important and aesthetically pleasing part of your stairs comes highly recommended. Newel posts are often the piece of a staircase that many think of when recalling a memorably designed set of stairs and this is something you want to splurge on.

Newel posts are the columns at the top, bottom, and, sometimes middle, of your stairs and supports the banister. These offer a lot of structural support, but have the potential of adding much more.

The posts are what people often think of when conjuring up memories of an old, antique home. Once the resounding statement of a carpenters work, these posts can create an authentic and antique look that many strive for in a beautiful, modernly designed household.

A manufacturer of carved newels knows the importance of this piece and is someone that can help you bring out the most beauty in an otherwise plain staircase. Why will using a custom carved post manufacturer be beneficial for you?

Having a specially designed newel post on your staircase will make a bold statement. Choosing an argyle style post in a deep mahogany will allow the stairs to be a centerpiece in your home, as is usually desired. A carved newel manufacturer may be able to customize the design for you to match a recurrent theme throughout your home, which can help tie your stairs in with the rest of the house creating a great consistent esthetic flow.

Another important aspect of your post will be what you choose for the top. If you can recall descending a staircase, your hand gliding down the banister, there is always a piece that stops you at the end. This is often a decorative wooden accent that sits atop the post that you might use as a coat hanger or catch all. This is called a top, and the choices are endless. A carved newel post manufacturer can help you choose something that will accent your posts and add that final touch of flair.

Though these names might not conjure up readily stored images in your mind, they will give you an idea of the choices you have. Tops range from circular designs such as a fluted or contemporary acorn top, to colonial or mushroom shape. A more classic style such as a golde post top will give you the clean finish you are looking for, or choosing a steel ball might round out the top and bottom of the staircase.

Often times, when adding a staircase to an already built and furnished home you are restricted based upon space and floor plan, forcing you into choosing certain elements you may not have wanted. This is the time for you to make up for a lackluster placement of stairs, or add some elegance to a simple design. There are so many options, designs and styles, working with a newel manufacturer can help you create the exact feeling and look you are going for.

Flourish Design Elements adds a whole new standard of style and magnificence to your dwelling using exceptionally made, wood accents and carved newel posts. Provencal Pottery Reflects The Warmth Of Southern France

Provence is situated in the south of France along the Mediterranean Sea. Mediterranean art work often reflects the warmth of a climate graced with warm breezes and lands which bear olive vines and wine grapes. Provencal pottery depicts images which suggest that French potters have been influenced by similar cultural factors to those which can be seen in Greek and Spanish art work.

One similar feature is the prevalence of bright colours among the pieces one finds for sale on the internet or in dedicated shops. Warm, creamy maize forms the backdrop for vivid shades of blue or deep reds. Customers who like these kinds of colours can fix on a particular shade found in a set and use it to establish a theme, adding pieces painted in just one deep shade and adding napkins of the same hue to a table setting.

Olive and other shades of green are also popular, but this makes sense considering the images that are represented on the mugs and plates. Vines are common, often bearing young or ripe olives. Certain green stems lead to small, bright flowers of all hues. A bouquet of these blossoms might be supported against a sheaf of wheat so that an entire place setting suggests a meal of freshly baked bread served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

In contrast with modern abstract art work a tourist might see at a gallery in Paris, products created in Provence demonstrate the importance of geometry to regional style. Although vines trail and meander, they do so in a linear pattern. Olives or flowers appear at regular intervals in a controlled fashion around pots and cups.

This linearity retains a sense of flow whether represented on pottery or linens. A bowl will often be filled with the painting of a minutely-proportioned bouquet which accentuates the roundness of the vessel. At the same time, precise characteristics can be picked-out which indicate how much care was taken to balance the entire image.

Within sheaves of wheat, one might notice that the grains are delineated with angular certainty. These are much like mosaic patterns exhibited on the floors of ancient ruins all along the coast. A feature like this shows a similarity between ancient Greek and modern characteristics among works from artists of southeast France.

Another aspect of Provencal pottery which reflects its geographical origins is the shapes these articles take. Narrow, rectangular dishes could hold marinated olives, ripe cheeses, or sun-dried cherry tomatoes. Squat, chubby pots would be ideal for storing garlic.

Boutique Provencale have a beautiful range of Provencal tablecloths and Dishes Pottery which will give any home that French country style look.
