Venetian Vs Roman Vs Roller Blinds

Whether you buy your blinds direct from the high street of from an online blinds retailer, there's plenty of styles and designs to choose from. Roller blinds are probably the most popular as they come in a wide variety of styles, some with thermal and black out backings which keep the heat in in winter and the light out in summer. Roller blinds are also very easy to cut to size, so trimming an inch or two from each side to ensure they fit your window is a quick and easy task.

Venetian blinds are also very popular as the angle of the slats can be altered giving easy control over the light levels within a room. The blind can also be retracted completely giving unhindered views to the outside world. The downside of the Venetian blind is the horizontal slats do gather dust and deep cleaning of them can become tiresome. The best bet is to give them a light dusting on a weekly basis to stop grime building up in the first place.

Roman blinds are both versatile and pleasing to the eye. Being little more than a rectangular piece of fabric which is drawn up by either a series of slats or metal hoops through which the draw cord is threaded. Slats and hoops give a different affect when the blind is retracted. The former draws up the fabric in a series of horizontal folds whereas the latter draws up the fabric in a series of draped folds. Both work equally well with both plain and patterned fabrics and although Roman blinds don't retract as much as roller or Venetian blinds, their main advantage is the slats and draw cords are easily removed allowing the fabric blind to be placed in the washing machine making for easy cleaning.

Out of the three, only the Venetian blinds cannot provide a complete blackout as some light will inevitably penetrate through the slats. Heat loss is also more likely through the Venetian blind, however this can be overcome to some extent by closing slats in an upward direction rather than downwards. Both Roman blinds and roller blinds are ideal for bedrooms and bathrooms, whilst Venetian blinds work well in kitchens, sitting rooms and conservatories, especially the hardwood styles.

You can order all these types of blinds direct from the internet or from the high street. Usually the internet offers more choices and lower prices due to fewer financial overheads. Just make sure the design you want is available by phoning the supplier prior to clicking 'buy now', as availability on some website can be misleading. Buying blinds direct from the high street has the benefit of seeing before you buy and not having to wait a couple of days for the delivery to arrive, but you'll pay a little more for this convenience.
