Making the Most of Your Conservatory Space With Stylish Storage

Your conservatory is a wonderful place to relax in the sunlight and feel the open space without having to venture into the outdoors. It only makes sense that this room needs great storage areas just as the rest of your home does. You do not have to stick to traditional cabinets, though. Not only are most cabinet installations a bit boring, but they make a room feel much smaller than it truly is. The right storage options can keep your conservatory open and airy while still giving you places to put everything.

Shelving Options

You can often utilise the space that you have in the most convenient ways with open shelving. This provides a practical solution for everything from storing gardening paraphernalia to creating a purely decorative arrangement while helping to avoid a closed off area. If you feel that you have plenty of space, consider using a vintage piece of furniture, such as an antique dresser, armoire, or pie safe, for your storage needs. Don't neglect the corners of the room, either. Find a nice corner cabinet with glass doors or a corner table to display curios and knick-knacks in a place that might otherwise have been overlooked.

Feature Your Plants

If you have a good number of potted plants or flowers, try gathering some of them into one place to create a larger visual attraction. Trestle tables and wheeled plant carts or stands are ideal for this. You can create a close arrangement of plants or use the space as a work bench station for planting, with equipment storage underneath.

Using Quirky Storage

If you desire more unique decor for your conservatory, keep an open mind when you are looking for storage methods. Mismatched suitcases or travel trunks can stack up, holding items that are not used very often inside and allowing you to place plants or ornaments on the 'ledges' that the stack makes. Stacking up some sturdy plant or vegetable crates can provide shelving, as well. You can find new crates or buy vintage ones quite inexpensively.

Storage in Tight Spaces

Conservatories that do not have much space to spare don't have to forgo storage. Floating wall shelves can be placed individually and as near or far apart as you need them. To capitalise on your shelving space even more, you can add some simple jam jars to the equation. You can attach the lids to the underside of individual shelves with short screws or a bit of glue, place small items in the jars, and screw them into the lids easily.

Even the most utilitarian of storage areas can be brightened up with plants or shelf ornaments. If you have an area that feels tired, try adding some knick-knacks and potted flowers. There is no reason to settle for a lack of storage or storage methods that you are unhappy with when you can change this quickly and easily.

There are wide ranges of home improvement companies, but choosing the right one is a big task. Before hiring a home improvement contractor, follow this simple checklist:

1. Hire only licensed and insured contractors: Renovation of your home is a big undertaking, and you don't want to take it lightly. Don't get fooled by the smoke and mirrors, or cost savings a contractor offers, because they are not licensed or insured. We have all heard the stories, and it is better to pay a little more now, because if not, you will be paying a lot more lately! A home improvement company should be licensed and insured, and this will help limit be scammed.

2. Compare the work with other companies: Before hiring any home improvement company, you want to make sure you get at least three quotes to compare. You don't need to get ten and one is not enough. Do some research on the internet, ask some friends for referrals of companies they have used and been happy with, and the pick three from there to come and quote the job.

3. Check the references: ALWAYS... AND I MEAN ALWAYS CHECK REFERENCES. Ok, now that I have made that perfectly clear, here are some things you should ask when you do. Were you happy with the work? Did they finish on time? Did they charge what they said would? And most importantly, would you use them again? Also, try and make time to see the work they did, or ask for before and after pictures of various jobs. This way you can see the scope of what they do, and have done. The more information you have, the easier it will be to make the right decision, that your will not regret

4. Make sure it is in the written contract: Not last, but certainly not least. Make sure you sign a written agreement. It is protection for you and them! The contact should include specifications of the work, the price (including details of any financing or credit terms), the responsibility for cleaning up, and the hourly rate for any added work. The more details the better in order to avoid any confusion. Make sure you read EVERY word on the page....TWICE! If you have a question, get it clarified, and if something changes, make sure to include in the agreement, and both you and the home improvement contractor should sign it.

Remember, more times than not, you get what you pay for! Look for a reputable and professional home improvement company. Your house means a lot for you, so take special care before handing the keys to the kingdom to just anyone.
